“The amount I claimed is a great help!”

Ma. Anadith Solinap, 42 years old, is a teacher who lives in Banate, Iloilo. She has nothing more to ask in life but to secure the future of her children, which she and her husband, Randy Solinap, 46, worked hard for.

On 23 January 2017, an unfortunate event happened when Randy was reportedly involved in a vehicle accident. Randy was rushed to the hospital but died the next day, leaving the sole responsibility of their children to Anadith.

Without Anadith’s knowledge, Randy had insurance. As the leader of the organization that consists of farmers and a member of Taytay Sa Kauswagan, Inc. (TSKI) Farmers Integrated Development Assistance (FIDA) program, which addresses the need of rural farmers, Randy had the privilege to have a loan with a corresponding insurance policy.

A representative from FIDA informed Anadith that she was entitled to claim the benefit of her husband’s insurance. Randy was covered by two insurance products: Gold Plan 2, which covers TSKI members with life and personal accident insurance; and Trenta Bonanza, TSKI’s anniversary program which provides clients with accidental death and dismemberment insurance and a chance to avail of special anniversary gifts. Both products were offered by TSKI to its clients in partnership with InsuranceKo (then MicroEnsure).

With assistance from the FIDA representative, Anadith prepared all of the required documents to avail of the insurance benefits. Her claims were approved a few days after she completed all of the requirements. Anadith received a total of Php 350,000.00. Though in grief due to the loss of her husband, Anadith still chose to continue pursuing the desire to secure the future for their children. “The amount I claimed is a great help”, she said.

Randy may not have been there to personally help her along the way but he made sure that in an unfortunate and challenging time, his family had the means to recover.

GCash Insure Pays its First Hospitalization Claim

A few days after its launch, GCash Insure paid its first hospitalization claim.

Ms. Karla Andrea Cardenas, a 36-year–old government employee from Davao City, has been an active GCash user for months now. The mobility and helpful features of GCash make Karla love using the app.

When InsuranceKo – the team providing GCash Insure – offered the product to Ms. Cardenas, she eagerly said yes. GCash Insure is a first-of-its-kind comprehensive insurance product that includes Life, Personal Accident, and Hospitalization coverage that is offered through GCash.

Ms. Cardenas availed of the GCash Family Monthly Silver which covers her and her two dependents with Php 50, 000 Life Insurance, Php 50, 000 for Personal Accident Insurance, and up to Php 1, 500 for Hospitalization Insurance. Ms. Cardenas chose to include both of her parents in the policy. None of the persons insured had to undergo a medical examination or clinical test or even fill out any form to avail of this insurance policy.

On 25 April 2019, her mother, Filipina Cardenas, was hospitalized due to Choledocholithiasis, which is commonly known as bile duct stones. She had an operation the following day. Filipina stayed in the hospital for a total of seven days. Ms. Cardenas remembered about the hospitalization insurance which covers her mother and quickly informed the GCash Insure support team through email about it. The team eagerly assisted her through email and phone calls on the documents needed for her claim.

Just a day after completing the requirements, her claim was approved, and the amount was credited to her GCash account. The claim process was also as simple as the process of buying the policy and did not involve any form of filing or lengthy questions-answers session.

Karla was happy with the amount she received which helped her and her family in several ways.

She continues patronizing the GCash services especially the GCash Insure now that she knows how useful insurance is during trying times and recommended her friends and family members to go for it.

GCash provides more affordable digital insurance products amid COVID-19 situation

The coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) placed more than half of the world in a state of crisis, with almost every country battling the virus by all means to flatten the curve. Frontline workers emerged as modern-day heroes, as their jobs require them to take the highest risk of getting infected with the virus just to save lives. While the time stopped for the rest of the world, it did not stop for them.

Roberto (not his real name) is one such hero. As an enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Mindanao, he is also at the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19. Last March, Roberto and his colleagues were exposed to an infected person in the line of duty. For 14 days, they were admitted at the Air Base Hospital in Zamboanga City for close monitoring.

It was then that Roberto filed for insurance claims from the policy he availed from GCash Insurance, a comprehensive insurance product of Life, Personal Accident, and Daily Hospital Income. The GCash Insurance Support Team eagerly assisted him and communicated with him through phone calls and emails. Roberto easily received the benefit amount conveniently through his GCash wallet after complying with the requirements.

In light of the current public health crisis, GCash seeks to help in the battle against COVID-19 by spreading awareness and making insurance more affordable to Filipinos through a convenient platform. GCash users can say goodbye to the conventional insurance plans because through GCash Insure, everything is at the tip of their fingertips.

While the insurance industry has long been established in the Philippines, studies show that only 16 percent of middle to upper-income Filipinos availed of insurance. For most people, insurance is seen as an unnecessary expense and is not accessible for those with lower income.

“We at GCash believe that there is a huge need to bring insurance products closer to Filipinos. By offering personal insurance products to GCash users, we are allowing them to reap the immense benefits of having insurance policies that are not only affordable, but also very convenient,” GCash Chief Technology and Operations Officer Pebbles Sy said.

Users can claim these benefits through email by attaching the necessary documents and sending them to gcashinsuresupport@microensure.com. The entire process beats the traditional way of getting insurance since you can skip the long lines.

“Insurance is one of the best ways to stay financially protected for emergencies and unexpected situations. It is a way of sparing bank accounts from the brunt of the expenses in emergencies and accidents. Plus, it’s a great way to give people a peace-of-mind since insurance plans provide safety nets. With GCash Insurance, this security is made accessible because of the low price. After all, healthcare is a right and GCash aims to provide every Filipino full enjoyment of this right,” Sy explained.

By providing a much more affordable alternative to conventional insurance products, GCash is helping safeguard Filipinos from emergencies without breaking the bank.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder that nothing is certain in this world, but everything can be managed if we know how to protect ourselves financially. Now more than ever, frontline workers like Roberto deserve protection for the crucial role they play in the current situation,” Sy said.

Seeing the value of insurance first hand

May Jane Pulmones, 44, was a long-time borrower of Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI) in Pototan, Iloilo. She borrowed money to help her husband, Meliton, develop their rice farm.

Unfortunately, in 2015, Mary Jane was diagnosed with diabetes which affected her eyesight and a few years later, she developed a long-term complication, leukemia.

Mary Jane had been in and out of the hospital for four years. On 25 July 2019, her doctor told her family that she had little chance of surviving. With consent from the physician, the family decided to bring Mary Jane home where she died six days later.

Meliton, as Mary Jane’s next of kin, was informed by TSKI staff that he was entitled to claim the insurance benefits of Mary Jane under Gold Plan 2, insurance coverage to which she was entitled as a member of TSKI.

After completing the requirements, he received benefits amounting to Php 100, 000.

When asked how the claim money will help him and his family, Meliton said that it will help them pay their debts and commented:

“I only hear good things before about your insurance but now I have personally seen its importance and how helpful it is during this kind of situation.”
