“Insurance made our recovery easier.”

Rosemarie Genine, is a member of Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI). She is a mother of two and has been a mobile food vendor for twenty years. Her husband, Julius, is a farmer and helps her to cook the food that they sell.

In May, Rosemarie had an accident whilst doing some carpentry for her kitchen extension. A four-inch nail slipped and hit her right eye whilst she was trying to fix some bamboo pieces.

Rosemarie went to the nearest hospital for treatment but was referred to another hospital in the city which is an hour away from her town. She was forced to transfer between hospitals in the city as there was no eye specialist available. When Rosemarie was finally admitted to the hospital, an eye operation was scheduled for the following day.

After the operation, Rosemarie was informed that there was no chance of saving the sight in her affected eye. She was discharged from the hospital after seven days and had to return for four consecutive days for checkups. Hospital bills, the cost of medicines, and transportation were huge burdens for the family. As Rosemarie is the main breadwinner, their income was significantly affected. The family had to borrow money from friends and relatives to settle the hospital bills and for Rosemarie’s medication.

The family was relieved when the TSKI branch where Rosemarie is a member, informed her that she could file a claim for accidental dismemberment against her Gold 2 and OKSure insurance policies. After submitting all the required documents, her claims for both products were approved. Rosemarie received a total benefit amount of Php 115, 000.

The claim amount helped Rosemarie and her family pay their debts and fund their business. Some of the money will also be used for the education of her two children.

Rosemarie took two months’ rest before going back to her daily routine of selling food. She might have lost sight in her eye but Rosemarie is very thankful that she’s still alive and can do her usual tasks. She fully appreciates what insurance can do during hard times.

“Insurance made that tough situation lighter.”

Marlene Hontong is a food vendor in Davao City. To improve her business, she requested a loan from Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI). The business loan is bundled with insurance.

One of her dependents was her sister, Marivic Mandaya, who worked in a food and beverage company. Marivic travels one hour every day just to go to work. In November 2019, like any regular day, Marivic decided to hitch a ride with their company truck which was heading in the same direction as their home. While on the road, the driver thought that Marivic was just sleeping but later noticed that she was no longer breathing. Marivic was rushed to the nearby hospital but, unfortunately, was declared dead on arrival. It was later found out that Marivic had suffered a heart attack.

This has been a sorrowful and shocking situation for Marivic’s family.

The TSKI staff informed Marlene that she was entitled to a claim since she insured Marivic under her policy. Marlene processed the necessary documents with ease and received the insurance benefit amount of Php 10, 0000 a few days after.

Marlene is grateful for the amount received and said that it helped them in some ways, especially in paying for the funeral expenses.

“Insurance, somehow, made that tough situation a little lighter for us,” Marlene said.

She was happy to endorse the services of TSKI and the insurance to her friends since she experienced it first-hand.
